Malolos City, Bulacan
Typology:
Residential
Scope:
Architectural & Interior
This residence reinterprets the Bahay na Bato archetype through a contemporary lens, grounding the home in heritage while embracing modern design. A heavy stone base anchors the structure, recalling the solidity of traditional bahay na bato foundations, while a lighter upper volume expresses openness and airiness. The façade is layered with pabalat CNC sunshades, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow throughout the day, while capiz-inspired panels add a tactile nod to Filipino craft. A pitched clay tile roof completes the profile, balancing tradition with timeless elegance.
The design integrates these cultural elements with modern living needs, blending natural ventilation, privacy, and protection from the elements. By combining local textures and materials with crisp architectural lines, the house achieves both rootedness and refinement. At once a homage to Filipino heritage and a contemporary family home, it represents the balance of past and present, weight and lightness, permanence and adaptability.
